{"id":4656,"date":"2016-02-27T10:27:52","date_gmt":"2016-02-27T10:27:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/paulkagame.com\/_test_&#038;web\/?p=4656"},"modified":"2024-03-21T18:43:44","modified_gmt":"2024-03-21T18:43:44","slug":"our-number-one-asset-is-our-people-kagame-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paulkagame.rw\/2025\/?p=4656","title":{"rendered":"Our number one asset is our People- Kagame"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/President-Kagame-at-harvard-business-school.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Boston, 26 February 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President Kagame today joined the Harvard Business School\u00a0microeconomics of competitiveness class as a guest lecturer for the third time.<\/p>\n<p>Usually taught by Professor Michael Porter, a leading expert on competitive strategy and competitiveness and economic development of nations, the class was led by Mrs. Laura Alfaro, a\u00a0Warren Alpert Professor of Business Administration.<\/p>\n<p>Following Professor Alfaro\u2019s presentation of a\u00a0case study that tracks Rwanda\u2019s development trajectory from colonialism to today, President Kagame answered students\u2019 questions on Rwanda\u2019s journey of transformation.<\/p>\n<p>President Kagame spoke on the challenges the country has had to overcome in order to achieve the level of progress registered today, as well as the lessons the rest of the world can learn from Rwanda\u2019s journey:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOur situation, Rwanda\u2019s case is a very complex one but it is full of lessons not only for Rwandans, but for the rest of the world specifically for Africa.\u00a0Rwanda showed humans are capable of the worst but also how 22 years down the road, reforms in <\/em><em>Rwanda<\/em><em>\u00a0can serve as an example\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOur tragedy had a silver lining, everyone took note that no one benefitted from it and people came together to find a solution,\u201d Kagame later added.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Rwanda&#8217;s vision for the future, President Kagame told the students:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOur aspiration is to build a solid foundation for our number one asset: the people of <\/em><em>Rwanda<\/em><em>. How we invest in our people, be it in health, education, capacity building and more, is equally important as their role in achieving this,\u201d<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOur\u00a0vision for the future is not divorced from the vision we have always had. It is really hinged on our people and their development and ending up where we want: a stable secure, prosperous country.\u201d\u00a0Kagame added.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On the topic of economic growth,\u00a0President Kagame\u00a0pointed to being landlocked as key in thinking harder and smarter to find solutions to sustain growth.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBeing landlocked has helped us think smarter and harder about investing in infrastructure and high value goods.<\/em>\u00a0<em>We are investing in technology, services that render being landlocked irrelevant.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Emphasizing the importance of inclusive growth, President Kagame highlighted Rwanda\u2019s efforts to ensure economic growth benefits the people of Rwanda equally as exemplified by the over one million people lifted out of poverty between 2006-2014.<\/p>\n<p>President Kagame also challenged students to look beyond aid as uniquely responsible for growth:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAid is not responsible for growth, it is how you use it and if it is used to build a foundation that promotes growth. If you rely on what you get from the outside and do not do anything from the inside, you are doomed, you don\u2019t achieve anything.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>President Kagame will end the first day of his two day visit to Boston with a\u00a0public lecture at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum at Harvard\u2019s Institute of Politics followed by a meeting with hundreds of leaders of the Rwandan community living in North America.<\/p>\n<p>On the last day of his visit, President Kagame will deliver the keynote address at the closing banquet of the 18<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Annual Africa Business Conference, an annual event organized by the Harvard African Business Club, a student-run organization of the Harvard Business School.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Boston, 26 February 2016 President Kagame today joined the Harvard Business School\u00a0microeconomics of competitiveness class as a guest lecturer for the third time.
