The summit began with the launch of the Uganda portion of the standard gauge railway that will connect Malaba to Kampala. Hosted\u00a0\u00a0 by President Museveni, the summit was attended by\u00a0President Salva Kiir Mayardit of Sudan, Eng. Michael Kamau,\u00a0Cabinet Secretary, Transport and Infrastructure who represented the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Dr. Fassil Hahom, Minister\/Legal Advisor representing the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.<\/p>\n<p>Launching the railroad, President Museveni described the railway as marking a new era:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are moving into the real business of developing our country. We are here to launch our region into a new era of cheaper transport and cheaper electricity.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The railway will join South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n<p>President Kagame thanked all urged the summit to speed up progress:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhere there are difficulties, we can form a joint mobilization campaign and work together to solve challenges.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Northern Corridor Integration Projects discussed key sectors including transport, ICT, commodities exchange energy, immigration, trade as well as defense, peace and security cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>President Kagame ended his visit tomorrow with the Independence Day celebrations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kampala, 8 October 2014 President Kagame attended the 7th Northern Corridor Integration Projects Summit on the second day of his visit.
