{"id":16609,"date":"2021-11-29T18:28:16","date_gmt":"2021-11-29T18:28:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.paulkagame.com\/?p=16609"},"modified":"2021-11-29T18:28:16","modified_gmt":"2021-11-29T18:28:16","slug":"19th-unido-general-conference-remarks-by-president-kagame-29-november-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paulkagame.rw\/2025\/?p=16609","title":{"rendered":"19th UNIDO General Conference | Remarks by President Kagame | 29 November 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Excellencies, Heads of State and Government<\/li>\n<li>Mr Li Yong, Director General of UNIDO<\/li>\n<li>Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I commend UNIDO for its continued commitment and support for Africa\u2019s industrial transformation agenda.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership between Rwanda and UNIDO exemplifies this, and I look forward to our continued collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Africa\u2019s solid economic performance in recent decades, the Covid-19 pandemic has reversed some of our gains.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, the crisis has shown the importance of industrialization, for getting our economies back on track.<\/p>\n<p>Allow me to share a few points, on how we can work together, to ensure that Africa reaches its manufacturing potential.<\/p>\n<p>First, trade should be a key component of the continent\u2019s strategy.<\/p>\n<p>If the African Continental Free Trade Area is successfully implemented, the manufacturing sector is expected to double in size in the coming decade, creating over 14 million jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Second, the use of digital technologies should be prioritized to raise productivity and facilitate cross-border trade.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, clean and green strategies must be the forefront of our industrial policy, reflecting the urgency of the climate crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Africa\u2019s vast resources give us a comparative advantage, but we need to see more tangible results for our people, from this immense wealth.<\/p>\n<p>That means, above all, investing in people and in the skills that drive industrialization.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s continue working together, to make this happen.<\/p>\n<p>Allow me to close with a tribute to the outgoing Director General, Mr Li Yong, for his eight years of distinguished service.<\/p>\n<p>I also extend a warm welcome to the incoming Director General, Dr Gerd M\u00fcller, and wish him every success.<\/p>\n<p>I thank you for your kind attention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Excellencies, Heads of State and Government Mr Li Yong, Director General of UNIDO Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen I commend UNIDO for its continued commitment and support for Africa\u2019s industrial transformation agenda.
