{"id":16243,"date":"2021-07-01T16:33:02","date_gmt":"2021-07-01T16:33:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.paulkagame.com\/?p=16243"},"modified":"2021-07-01T16:56:14","modified_gmt":"2021-07-01T16:56:14","slug":"generation-equality-forum-remarks-by-president-kagame-1-july-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paulkagame.rw\/2025\/?p=16243","title":{"rendered":"Generation Equality Forum | Remarks by President Kagame | 1 July 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Excellencies<\/li>\n<li>Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Generation Equality Forum is the most significant platform for advancing gender equality in today\u2019s world.<\/p>\n<p>I wish to commend President Macron of France and President L\u00f3pez Obrador of Mexico for championing this initiative, together with UN Women Executive Director, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka.<\/p>\n<p>Rwanda is particularly happy to be associated with the Action Coalition for Technology and Innovation for Gender Equality.<\/p>\n<p>Let me tell you about Rwanda\u2019s plans and commitments in this area.<\/p>\n<p>First, we aim to bridge the gender gap in digital access by 2026.<\/p>\n<p>We will do this in three specific areas: ownership of smartphones, access to digital financial services, and science, technology, and math studies at the upper secondary level.<\/p>\n<p>Second, we will ensure that our innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem is fully inclusive, by doubling the number of women and girls supported by innovation centres.<\/p>\n<p>Rwanda has also engaged the East African Community in pursuit of possible joint commitments in these domains.<\/p>\n<p>Achieving gender equality in technology and innovation is just one part of the wider struggle to guarantee equal rights and opportunities for women and girls.<\/p>\n<p>Every human being, regardless of gender, should be able to live the life that they choose.<\/p>\n<p>That is the commitment we are all making through the Generation Equality Forum, inspired by the historic outcome of the 4th World Conference on Women a quarter-century ago.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s stay the course.<\/p>\n<p>I thank you for your kind attention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Excellencies Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen The Generation Equality Forum is the most significant platform for advancing gender equality in today\u2019s world.
