{"id":16177,"date":"2021-06-02T22:47:03","date_gmt":"2021-06-02T22:47:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.paulkagame.com\/?p=16177"},"modified":"2021-06-03T19:49:26","modified_gmt":"2021-06-03T19:49:26","slug":"covax-amc-summit-remarks-by-president-kagame-2-june-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paulkagame.rw\/2025\/?p=16177","title":{"rendered":"COVAX AMC Summit | Remarks by President Kagame | 2 June 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Excellencies<\/li>\n<li>Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>First, I would like to commend Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Gavi Board Chair Jos\u00e9 Manuel Barroso for convening this summit.<\/p>\n<p>The COVAX initiative has already saved many lives, including in Rwanda.<\/p>\n<p>Our country has received more than 500,000 doses via COVAX, allowing us to vaccinate nearly 3 percent of our population.<\/p>\n<p>Tens of millions of doses have been delivered worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>I commend Gavi, the World Health Organisation, and CEPI for the good work done so far.<\/p>\n<p>However, billions of people are still exposed to the dangers of Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p>The shortfall in Africa is particularly acute.<\/p>\n<p>We must redouble our efforts, and also diversify the sources of vaccine available to COVAX, even as we work to build Africa\u2019s vaccine production capacity for the future.<\/p>\n<p>The COVAX Advance Market Commitment, led by Gavi, is the financing mechanism that ensures vaccine access for low- and middle-income countries.<\/p>\n<p>Now is the time to ensure COVAX has the funds to keep saving lives and help bring the Covid-19 pandemic to an end.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for your attention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Excellencies Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen First, I would like to commend Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Gavi Board Chair Jos\u00e9 Manuel Barroso for convening this summit.
