{"id":15899,"date":"2021-01-28T08:57:32","date_gmt":"2021-01-28T08:57:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/197.243.16.164\/new-pk\/?p=15899"},"modified":"2021-03-15T08:59:26","modified_gmt":"2021-03-15T08:59:26","slug":"nepad20-symposium-remarks-by-president-kagame-28-january-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paulkagame.rw\/2025\/?p=15899","title":{"rendered":"NEPAD@20 SYMPOSIUM | Remarks by President Kagame | 28 January 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Excellencies<\/li>\n<li>Ladies and Gentlemen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This year, we mark twenty years since the re-foundation of our African continental institutions.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2001, the African Union was founded to replace the Organisation of African Unity.<\/p>\n<p>A few months later, in July 2001, NEPAD was created.<\/p>\n<p>NEPAD\u2019s mission was to eradicate poverty and integrate Africa into the global economy, with a focus on good governance.<\/p>\n<p>We pay tribute today to the distinguished leaders who spearheaded the establishment of NEPAD, from Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Many other leaders rallied to the NEPAD cause in the following years.<\/p>\n<p>NEPAD has remained true to its vision.<\/p>\n<p>NEPAD\u2019s values are part and parcel of the reform spirit we have seen in the African Union over the past several years, with good results.<\/p>\n<p>It is therefore no accident that NEPAD officially became the African Union Development Agency in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>NEPAD\u2019s track record makes it the ideal institution to help lead implementation of Agenda 2063 on behalf of the African Union.<\/p>\n<p>I thank the partners who have supported NEPAD over the last two decades, both in Africa and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>I call on Member States to continue supporting the multiple partnerships that AUDA-NEPAD has developed.<\/p>\n<p>AUDA-NEPAD\u2019s agreement with the new CFTA Secretariat is of particular importance.<\/p>\n<p>Honouring our statutory commitments as Member States is not only our duty, it is good value for money. Doing so also facilitates resource mobilisation more broadly.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Ibrahim Mayaki has led NEPAD with integrity and commitment for more than a decade.<\/p>\n<p>I wish to close by thanking him for his extraordinary service to our organisation, and to our continent.<\/p>\n<p>I thank you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Excellencies Ladies and Gentlemen This year, we mark twenty years since the re-foundation of our African continental institutions.
