{"id":15880,"date":"2021-01-25T11:27:38","date_gmt":"2021-01-25T11:27:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/197.243.16.164\/new-pk\/?p=15880"},"modified":"2021-01-27T11:30:21","modified_gmt":"2021-01-27T11:30:21","slug":"climate-adaptation-summit-remarks-by-president-kagame-25-january-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paulkagame.rw\/2025\/?p=15880","title":{"rendered":"Climate Adaptation Summit | Remarks by President Kagame | 25 January 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As we work to slow the pace of climate change, we must also work to mitigate its effects.<\/p>\n<p>Climate change, after all is a fact, which calls for social and economic resilience to protect livelihoods.<\/p>\n<p>I thank Prime Minister Mark Rutte and the Netherlands Government for spearheading this initiative, which helps set the stage for COP-26 later this year.<\/p>\n<p>In Rwanda, the changing climate is already making itself felt in unusually heavy rainfall and flooding. Changing weather patterns also affect agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>We are responding by investing in water resources management, for example restoring catchment areas and wetlands.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Rwanda established the Rwanda Water Resources Board to ensure integrated, long-term planning around water, irrigation, and climate.<\/p>\n<p>The Netherlands Government is a strong supporter of these efforts, particularly with new technology.<\/p>\n<p>The Rwanda Green Fund catalyses financing for climate resilience projects and has already supported the creation of thousands of green jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Rwanda\u2019s ambitious National Determined Contribution commits to a 38% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>To meet that goal, we are working to preserve forests through public-private partnerships for forest management, together with investment partners.<\/p>\n<p>Investment in climate adaptation strengthens our societies for future growth and prosperity.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s make adaptation a priority for 2021 and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>I thank you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen As we work to slow the pace of climate change, we must also work to mitigate its effects.
