I thank the leaders of Chile, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom for convening this event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May 2020, Rwanda submitted a revised, and more ambitious, Nationally Determined Contribution under the Paris Agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This plan reflects Rwanda\u2019s vision to become a developed, low-carbon economy by 2050.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also intend to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 38 percent by 2030, compared to the business-as-usual scenario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will be achieved by increasing efficiency in energy production, industrial processes, waste management, transportation, and agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These efforts will mitigate an estimated 4.6 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are also strengthening the resilience of our economy and ecosystems through green urbanisation and nature conservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nature-based solutions offer the best return on investment, in terms of drawing down carbon and protecting biodiversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recent advances in renewable energy, including battery technology and clean cooling, provide assurance that it is possible to build net-zero economies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rwanda intends to take full advantage of these technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ambitious action on climate change will make our world more resilient and healthy, and also more prosperous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We should not miss out on the opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I thank you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Excellencies, Heads of State and Government Secretary-General, Ant\u00f3nio Guterres I am pleased to address today\u2019s Climate Ambition Summit.
